What is your current occupation? Do you enjoy it?
I teach and I love it/them!
|
What is your educational background? Are you currently in school?
Yes, I'm in school. My students think I live here in the closet. They are always a bit shocked to see me at the mall, the movies, in the woods on my horse or in a bookstore.
I have two undergrad. degrees and a Masters in English.

Describe your lifestyle and current relationship status:
I guess I would describe myself as artistic in nature but not in temperment. I like being creative, imaginative and solving problems.
I don't consider my job as work any more than making jewlery, drawing and painting, potting around in my greenhouse or working on/with my horses.
I like being active and enjoy a variety of activities in my day. As a result it takes me about five minutes to fall asleep each night.
I'm newly married as of three years ago.

Do you have any vices (smoking/drinking/etc)? Describe:
I am not kind to my fingernails. I forget to put gloves on when I garden and when I ride. Then I am too impatient to go find sissors to clip hang nails. As a consequence, my cuticles are a mess and my nails are NEVER all the same length.
|
Do you have any "heroes" in your life or your work? Describe:
I admire dark horses, people who come from behind or overcome adversity to attain what they want.
I admire people who are generous with what they value the most.
|

I teach aphorisms so I know lots of famous quotes but my favorite is one a student wrote a few years ago. "Life is like playing the flute. The best way to get through it is to breathe."

What makes you happy? Why?
Too hard! TOO HARD! So many things make me happy.

All the usual suspects: deaths especially the avoidables and when the person isn't reconciled. the could have beens or might have beens, injustice in all its guises, and of course, disapointments.

Name five (5) items you can't live without:
Air, water, food, everything else is negotiable. People are resilient. We can recover from just about anything, though I have to admit I'm fond of my arms and legs.
|
Describe your most "humbling" moment:
Getting dumped off a horse I considered lazy RIGHT in front of my friends
|
Do you have favorite type of music? Favorite bands or singers?
I like lots. It depends on the purpose, but I have to admit I'm a sucker for good lyrics. Obviously I like singer-song writers like James Blunt to James Taylor and Joni Mitchel to the Indigo Girls. For dancing obviously these aren't workable. When I'm writing/reading/grading Enya or classical are a better fit.
|
What type of films do you enjoy? Please give some examples:
Here I am all over the map and I go way back. I love Hitchcock. I like Woody Allen especially "Annie Hall." Many films stand out in my mind for diffeent reasons. I liked "Like Water for Chocolate, " "Emanuel" "Ryan's Daughter" "Silence of the Lambs" I appreciated "Lord of the Rings" but I was also disapointed. Then I like the otherwise inane like "Con Air."
|
Do you enjoy television? Which programs?
I was an X Files junkie but with its demise I had to move on to CSI. I like strong characterization and prefer LV and Miami. Though I like the actors in NY I find their roles less engaging.
|
Do you like to read? If so, what books have you enjoyed recently?
I am an indiscriminate and voracious reader. I read lots of young adult fiction to give ideas to my students. I just finished Inexcusable -about high school date rape from the guy' perspective. reasonably good. I am impatienly waiting for the next book in the George R.R. Martin fantasy series. I am currently reading biographies on Georgia O'Keefe and Jack the Ripper.
|
Do you follow sports? Which teams are you interested in?
I go through phases. I tend to follow coaches rather than teams. I appreciate watching most of them. Thanksgiving and New Years I am much more likely to be following the game with the guys than in the kitchen with the girls
|
Do you have any hobbies or other interests? Describe:
Aformentioned for the most part
|
Where are your favorite places? Where would you like to go most?
It's not that I would like to just go somewhere.
I like living in different places. I lived in England for a few years and I would go back. I would like a cottage in Irland or Scotland or the countryside in France. A condo in Paris, London or Madrid or Naples would be fun for awhile.
I grew up in OC but have lived in Mississippi, Idaho and now in Washington in the smallest of small towns; one stop light-Don't blink! but I go off to the city or the beach for fun too.
