This is my "mini" bio:
Melanie Fontana is an award winning 20 year old singer/songwriter from Newington, CT now living in NYC.
Melanie has a 4 to 5 octave vocal range and a bold voice that has been compared to the vocal abilities of Teena Marie, Mariah Carey as well as Christina Aquilera.
Melanie has received awards for both her vocal abilities and her songwriting.
She has performed at various venues, both large and small, including the World Famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem, NY, Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland for the Baltimore Orioles, CBGB’s and The Bitter End in NYC for a singer/songwriter events, local coffee houses, clubs, as well as at community affairs and private parties. She was named the first Connecticut Idol in October of 2002. She has appeared on and been a winning episode contestant/vocalist and a semi-finalist on MTV’s “Say What Karaoke”.
Melanie sings virtually all genres of music, from pop, to rock, as well as
R & B, and has a repertoire of cover and original songs from the 60’s to today!
Melanie is multi talented and has acting, dancing and songwriting skills as well as her singing talents.
Melanie just recently released a Parody song single co-written by Melanie and morning DJ, Gary Craig of WTIC=FM, Hartford, CT. The song was titled"Paris' Sweet Escape" and it received airplay in the US on various stations coast to coast..including Hawaii and even on internet radio in the UK.
Melanie has done background and extra’s acting on CBS/Sony’s/VH1’s “LOVE MONKEY” as well HBO’s "The Third Concord", Fox’s "Canterbury Law" and others.
Melanie has extensive recording studio experience and has demo'd songs at several studios in NY, MA, and CT. She has demo'd dance songs, hop hop/r & b songs, pop songs and even country songs for various songwriters and producers.
Melanie is a member of ASCAP and AFTRA .
What is your current occupation? Do you enjoy it?
I am a vocalist ..but I work P/T in a healthfood store in NYC making smoothies and selling vitamins. I enjoy both jobs immensely, but singing and performing is my PASSION and what I LOVE to do the most! I also enjoy acting.

What is your educational background? Are you currently in school?
I have a high school diploma and I have taken some college courses. I am, obviously, interested in the arts...music, acting, general performing...AND writing..both creative writing and songwriting. I have also taken acting classes and take voice lessons regularly.

Describe your lifestyle and current relationship status:
I am straight female.

Do you have any vices (smoking/drinking/etc)? Describe:
I don't smoke and I don't drink. I do occasionally bite my nails tho'...LOL

Do you have any "heroes" in your life or your work? Describe:
My music Idol is Christina Aguilera because she shows her PASSION in her music and has had the ability to rise about the "blonde pop star" nonsence and make a credible mega star out of herself...she has proven herself to be a true artist.

I love quotations...I actually keep notebooks of them. I really don't have a favorite. ONE of my favorites is
"I am now in a world where I have to hide my heart and what I believe in, but somehow I will show the world who I really am and be loved for who I am."

What makes you happy? Why?
MUSIC!, Sunny days and warm weather, CATS of all shapes colors and sizes, performing, being on STAGE!

What makes you sad? Why?
Rainy days, animal abuse. They are both extremely upsetting to me.

Describe your most "humbling" moment:
Being 'BOOED" and"tapped" off the stage during the filming of the televised version of "Live from the Apollo"....especially after being a FIRST PLACE winner during the weekly LIVE Amateur night at the Apollo.

Do you have favorite type of music? Favorite bands or singers?
I enjoy ALL music, but my favorite if I had to choose would be hip hop, R & b, and pop...most anything that is on Mainstream radio.
As stated above, I do like Christina Aquilera.
I like the band "Boys Like Girls" right now, too.

What type of films do you enjoy? Please give some examples:
I hate scary movies because they give me nightmares...I LOVE comedies like Liar Liar and Mickey Blue Eyes. I also like Sappy girl movies like The Notebook and The Devil Wears Prada and Mean Girls.

Do you enjoy television? Which programs?
I enjoy TALK SHOWS: Ellen, Tyra Banks, The View. My alltime fav show would be a tie between "30 Rock" and 'The Office"

Do you like to read? If so, what books have you enjoyed recently?
Yes, as a matter of fact I DO love to read. Augusten Burroughs has to be my FAVORITE author right now; I have read ALL his books. I also recently read the book "Rockstarlet" by Stewart Lewis, who is also a musician/vocalist in NYC. Prior to these books, I was HOOKED on the "Left Behind" series of books.

Do you follow sports? Which teams are you interested in?
I am not really into sports..but the NY Yankees are my boys!!!

Do you have any hobbies or other interests? Describe:
I go to the gym ALOT and right now I'm rather obsessed with working out and staying in shape. I'm a professional "dieter"..LOL.
I LOVE CATS. I love ALL Animals.
Writing is my outlet and my way to express myself thru prose, poems and song lyrics.

Where are your favorite places? Where would you like to go most?
I want to get out of the Northeast US and move to SUNNY CALIFORNIA.
