Anyway, as far as making it in the biz I'd say the most important thing is to read up on what's happening in the world. Stay on top of the issues, get either an internship with a TV station or see if you can get in as a production assistant (in smaller markets they call them news assistants). You'll start out, especially in the smaller markets as an NA, editing tapes and writing VO's or VO/SOTs- but just keep pushing to get on cam and before you know it you'll have a regular reporting schedule; though you may be general assignment instead of a specific beat i.e. crime or education. Most stations don't even have beat reporters these days, which is unfortunate I think. Anyway I hope that helps- feel free to write back if you have any more questions. Have a great weekend!
