Dear United Hollywood Live My name is Tony Figueroa but you know me on the chat interface as COTV. Even though I am not a Writers Guild of America member, I am a member of SAG, AFTRA and IATSE. I strongly support my brothers and sisters in the WGA. Whatever you decide in the upcoming vote I will support. Your show has been inspirational, educational and empowering. With the AMPTP trolls and propaganda from the corporate owned media, it was refreshing to hear the truth if only three times a week. I feel sorry for those narrow minded people who could not see that your use of levity on the show was a morale booster. I hope they find a cure soon. My adaptation for the USA Network Law & Order Criminal Intent Forum
http://forums.usanetwork.com/index.php?showtopic=394870&st=844&gopid=716086&#entry716086
"Okay there`s a new action item for today...
Call the AMPTP.
The DGA (might) have reached a deal with the AMPTP (the DGA members vote on it on January 26th, 2008), and the WGA and the AMPTP have started informal conversations again.
This is a good start.
However, until the AMPTP and WGA start *officially* talking and negotiating, Fans For the WGA (FFWGA) is asking its members to call the AMPTP office in Encino, California between the hours of 9am to 5pm California time (noon and 8pm Eastern time) directly. Remind the AMPTP that it walked out of the negotiations 45 days ago and that the WGA has remained willing and waiting to bargain for this entire time period.
Now, we viewers and fans want both sides to return to the table without any funny business. We want them to settle the dispute, before it`s too late for pilot season, and before the Oscars. The first number:
1-818-382-1706 [The Ambiguous Answering Message]
It will go directly to an answering message, so you don`t have to worry about "talking" to someone or getting nervous. When you call please state:
Which show(s) you regularly watch
Your city and state
Your closest NBC affiliate (if you watch on DISH TV or DirectTV, you can say so)
Your gender
Whether you are currently working
Your age range(s) (i.e. under 18, 18-49, 25-44, 50+),
If you are comfortable saying so, your approximate household income per year (example HHI $75,000+ per year...that is the most desired audience for advertisers so if your family/household earns that much money please say so...if not, that`s okay too)
You want the AMPTP to start negotiating with the WGA immediately.
You want the AMPTP to bargain in "good faith".
As an example I`ll give you my talking points:
I regularly watch and enjoy `Law & Order: Criminal Intent` and `Burn Notice` on USA Network, (an NBC company) and `Mad Men` on AMC. I live in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia, and because I subscribe to DISH TV, my closest NBC affiliates are in Harrisonburg, VA, Hagerstown, MD and Washington DC. I am a working female in the 18-49 and 25-44 demographics and my household income is $75,000+ per year. I would like the AMPTP to start negotiating with the WGA immediately and to bargain in good faith so that production on my favorite shows can resume as soon as possible. Thank you.
Remember to be polite, firm, and brief.
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help make a phone call!

Okay after much research and a couple of phone calls I have finally figured out some helpful emails and phone numbers that anyone working in the industry can use
By far the most important and the first place anyone (writer, crew member, actor, etc) can and should approach first is The Actors Fund in NYC
For financial aid / emergencies call 212-221-7300 x 119 That is the extension of Lucy Seligson who is the intake director over at the NYC office.
She can be reached by email to
lseligson@actorsfund.org
while a more general backup email is
intakeny@actorsfund.org
The good thing about the Actors Fund is that it is nationwide and helps anyone who works in the entertainment industry plus their people are very well-informed about the many assistance programs out there that entertainment industry professionals can use. They also offer more than financial aid and counseling, but mental health counseling and career counseling to name just two other potentially useful programs.
Here are the other office contacts for people in other parts of the country:
Central Region (i.e. the Chicago office)
312.372.0989
Don Towne
dtowne@actorsfund.org
Western Region (i.e the Los Angeles office)
323.933.9244 ext. 55
intakela@actorsfund.org
Also you can speak with Keith McNutt, the Director of the LA office at 323.933.9244 ext. 14
Be sure to check out the website at
http://www.actorsfund.org
especially
http://www.actorsfund.org/services/Social_Services_and_Financial_Assistance/Entertainment_Industry_Assistance_Program/index_html
and
http://www.actorsfund.org/services/extPrograms
Hope this helps someone...feel free to pass the information along!

Back Home. Over Christmas, New Years and Three Kings Day we had a wonderful time visiting my family in Florida and my wife Donna's family in Ohio, but my thoughts were never far from home. Every day I would read the trades on my PDA thanks to places with free WiFi. I corresponded with friends back home who were keeping me up to date on strike news and I even fired off E-mails to couple of media organizations and one to a Republican presidential candidate who, although is seeking union endorsement, decided to cross a picket line. Looking back it was amazing to see how many of our conversions, over dinner or drinks, with friends and family were about the strike. This totally disproves the notion that Middle America does not care about striking writers and not once did I hear writers being refereed to as "Spoiled Millionaires". It was obvious that the neither the local papers or the local TV & radio news provided sufficient coverage on the story. They were surprised to learn that we in Los Angeles had the same problem (I wrote to David Hiller, Claudiae Eller and Richard Verrier at the Los Angeles Times about their lack of fair and balanced coverage of the strike in thier article titled Writers union feeling the heat). Donna and I would to the best of our ability explain the situation about residuals for DVDs and new media. I also directed people to web sites like United Hollywood and Nikki Fink's Deadline Hollywood Daily. The bulk of the strike talk involved the late night talk shows or the lack of late night talk show monologues. By this time it was announced that the network talk shows would be returning on January 2nd but David Letterman's company Worldwide Pants had not yet finalized their deal with the WGA. The monologues were sorely missed especially since we going full speed into Election 08 news coverage. We discussed what the hosts can and can not do. I basically stated that unless you have an interim agreement, you can't do struck work. Deadline Hollywood Daily: WGA Reminds Returning Jay And Conan: No Monologues. Then on January 2nd we watched the return of the network talk shows. I enjoyed seeing everyone back but was surprised to see Jay doing a monologue. Jay is an honorable man. He has supported the WGA in this strike and he supported SAG during the 2000 commercial strike but when it comes to writing his own monologues I want to ask him what he asked Hugh Grant, " What the hell were you thinking?" Thanks for adding another level of communication about the strike. The more real information there is out there, the less disinformation the media and the AMPTP can force feed everyone. Oh...I don't know if you have a show line up for Friday, Dec 7th, but there is going to be a Mutant Enemy rally at Fox Studios at 10 a.m. with Joss Whedon and lots of writers, staff and actors that have worked with this production company. I think it would be a great thing if there were some coverage. I realize it can't be live coverage but...

Playlist of songs for strikers and their iPods/mp3 players (can be downloaded via iTunes or via an RSS podcast) Runs about 120 minutes...hopefully the strike dancers at Paramount in Los Angeles will get a kick out of this :) Link: http://www.musicwebtown.com/vdovault/149255
