Once upon a time there was a little girl who loved to play make-believe. She would sit in her bedroom floor, at four years old and play with twin boys whose imaginary names were Jerry and Terry Smith. She played with them often; it was a way to keep the scary things at bay, scary things like the tree in the backyard that continuously bled sap from a small, black hole. She avoided the back yard and she wanted to avoid her pillow at night because sometimes it spoke to her. And so began the life of a writer who walks in the paranormal shadows of life. In 1974 her family moved from northern Virginia back to southwest Virginia where her ancestors are buried in the mountains and hills of an Appalachian landscape. She started school and in her kindergarten class she met, for the first time, twin boys named Jerry and Terry Smith. She wondered about the fact she had already played with them many times in her mind. She wondered about other things too. Why did she have dreams about the ceramic bust of a young girl that her mother had bought at a flea market? Why did she never feel alone even when she was? And why did a photo of her deceased uncle fill her head with feelings and with memories that did not belong to her but to a time that was clutched in the throes of World War II? She began to keep a diary and then she began to write stories about the things that would happen to her and she did so through the eyes of imaginary people, the characters in these stories. And then she reached adolescence and the pages could no longer contain her rabid imagination. She became curious about spiritual matters and became afraid of death. More than that, however, she became afraid of people, of what they were capable of doing to one another. Suddenly, amidst all her fear, she fell in love with being human, with everything that had to do with the human condition, including romantic love. This was about the time of her maternal grandmother’s death and life was a tumultuous affair, full of dark corners and possibilities. She sent her mind into the readied pages of her muse and lost herself for many years, finally emerging as the writer she was intended to be. Fast forward to 2004 and she still holds the same acute sense for the peculiar, with the same spiritual avocation – we are not alone here where we live and breathe. We are bound by energy, and death separates us by only a veil. We wait together and yet apart for what we believe will happen to us eternally. And we are complex beings, capable of sinning and finding our true purpose and of persevering and overcoming. Greetings, I am M.L. Cordle and I write about the shades of gray that abound among the black and the white in your life.
What is your current occupation? Do you enjoy it?
I am a writer but I continue to help out in the home improvement business owned by my father and brother.
What is your educational background? Are you currently in school?
Some college but never have felt like I needed a degree to get where I want to be which is where I am currently.
Describe your lifestyle and current relationship status:
I'm living the life of a writer with all that that entails. I'm adventurous, spontaneous and very happily married with a vibrant writer-to-be teenaged daughter.
Do you have any vices (smoking/drinking/etc)? Describe:
    Biting my fingernails!
Do you have any "heroes" in your life or your work? Describe:

Do you have a favorite quotation? Enter it here:
Too many to list but one that has gotten me the furthest in my life is: Never, never, never give up. ~Winston Churchill
    What makes you happy? Why?
Writing books. My reader fans. My life.
    What makes you sad? Why?
People who don't do what they say they're going to do. Family who can't be happy for me.
Name five (5) items you can't live without:
Items? Uh...computer for writing and promotional purposes, bed for dreaming, food/water because I'm not a ghost yet.
    Describe your most "humbling" moment:
When I realized that my 215 thousand word novel was not marketable.
Do you have favorite type of music? Favorite bands or singers?
Very eclectic here. I like everything from Nickleback to Nickle Creek.
What type of films do you enjoy? Please give some examples:
Anything by M. Night Shymalan. I actually enjoy too many to list but I'm a huge fan of paranormal suspense and psychological thrillers.
Do you enjoy television? Which programs?
Not a big fan of television but will make occasional forays into the series on Showtime. Dexter, The L Word, The Tudors. And I'm a faithful watcher of Sci-Fi's Ghost Hunters because sometimes the EVPs and thermal images do something to my psyche that I like.
Do you like to read? If so, what books have you enjoyed recently?
