Congress works GM rescue
(58 min.)
KGT-NEWS: It's been another rough week for General Motors, and probably one of the worst if not the worst on record. GM reported only $16 billion in cash and they burned through $6.9 billion in the 3rd quarter.
Now Congress is working on a $25 billion rescue plan. Sen. Carl Levin introduced the bill. A similar version is being considered in the House with Rep. Barney Frank as the leader of that effort. The NEW GENERATION's Dave Kinchen, Nick Gonzales and Gavin Witter discussed what a GM and Big Three bailout would mean to the industry, but the economy as well with taxpayers already footing several bailout bills.

(68 min.)

Presidential Campaigns Go Negative/The Second Presidential Debate
(63 min.)
KGT-NEWS: There were two big stories on this broadcast: the increasingly negative tone of the presidential campaign with accusations of racism, and the Second Presidential Debate. The first concerns recent outbursts from Sen. John McCain supporters at campaign events. An isolated few in the audience were overheard saying things like "terrorist" and "traitor", referring to Sen. Barack Obama.
McCain denounced the statements, as Georgia Congressman John Lewis (D), compared McCain to ex-Gov. George Wallace, a well known racist figure during the Civil Rights movement. McCain denounced the attacks, calling them absurd. The NEW GENERATION agreed.
Following the review of the 2nd Presidential Debate, KGT Business Beat Anchor Nick Gonzales returns to the fold following surgery a few weeks before.
