Local TV Show Producer Proves Disability is State of Mind

ORANGE CITY, Fla. – Standing at four-foot nine inches tall, Derek Goss seems like an unlikely television host and an even less likely stuntman. But this Orange City man doesn’t let a little thing like size deter him from his dreams. In fact, it’s the last thing on his mind.
What is on his mind is how to promote his program The Derek Goss Show. Self-written, directed, filmed and produced, Goss has accomplished more with his production than most people nearly twice his size.
The road to stardom has been an upward climb for Goss, who was born with Thrombocytopenia Absent Radii also called TAR syndrome. But walking on his knees and having his hands at his shoulders hasn’t kept Goss from becoming a handicapped Olympic medallist, a radio-show host, a Tae Kwon Do martial artist or earning a degree in web design and graphic art.
“The show is like every cartoon from the 80’s, Jim Henson Muppets, the Conan O’Brien Show meets Johnny Knoxville’s Jackass with a twist,” Goss explains. The twist would be him.
Effervescent, spunky, and fearless, Goss stages his own crazy physical stunts, jokes and gags using puppets that he manipulates with his feet, a remote control skate board and a plethora of accents and character voices.
His first completed 40 minute DVD is currently being duplicated, but for Goss this is just the beginning. He hopes to get his creation into the hands of someone who will help him produce it as a syndicated television show.
“All I need is the right person to pay attention, and I know this can take off,” Goss says confidently of his show. Right now he’s still looking for sponsors and producers wherever he can find them and remains infectiously optimistic.
“You know what would be cool,” Goss proposes, “ is a horror flick where I’m the monster that’s out there getting people.”
Thinking farther into the future he elaborates, “Yeah. We could do me up with all kinds of make-up and I could be this alien or this creature. That would be fun.”

I was born on April 01, 1979. I was born with Thrombocytopenia Absent Radii, a form of disability characterized by shortened limbs and twisted knees. No one in my family has TAR syndrome and after being born, my parents found out that there are 300 known cases of TAR syndrome are born to normal parents.
